THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Leader of the Opposition, V. S. Achuthanandan, has criticised the Government for what he described as its fighting an online lottery case in the Kerala High Court by engaging an advocate who is representing anti-Government interests in certain other court cases. In a statement here on Monday, Mr. Achuthanandan said the Government had engaged such an advocate to argue for it in a case filed by an online lottery company seeking the restoration of online lotteries in the State. The advocate was arguing against the Government in a case relating to the dispute over the Halcyon Palace filed by the M-Far Group. He had also represented a relative of the former Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty in the Supreme Court in a case related to the `ice-cream parlour scandal,' Mr. Achuthanandan said. He alleged that the selection of this advocate to fight the online lottery case indicated the Government's desire to help the lottery mafia. He urged the Government to engage some other senior advocate to represent it in this case.
