THRISSUR: Protest is brewing against the decision of Railways to convert the Chennai-Alleppy Express into a Super Fast train from May 1. Office-bearers of the Railway Passengers Association point out that the train at present has stops at Ottappalam, Wadakkanchery, Punkunnam, Thrissur, Irinjalakkuda, Chalakkudy, Angamali, Aluva, Ernakulam Town and Ernakulam Junction. But most of these stops will be withdrawn once it is converted into a Super Fast train. At present, more than 3,000 people from these stations between Palakkad and Ernakulam depend on this train everyday to reach their place of work in the morning. In fact, the Chennai-Alleppy Express which leaves Thrissur around 6.40 a.m. is the only train that caters to the needs of the employees from these areas who are to reach their workplaces beyond Aluva between 9 a.m and 9.30 a.m.
