TTD colleges to reopen on June 27

TIRUPATI: The three TTD-run degree colleges, Sri Venkateswara Arts College, Sri Govindaraja Swamy Arts College and Sri Padmavathi Women's College, will reopen on June 27 for the second and third year classes, a TTD release said. Applications for admission into first year of BA, BCom and BSc (both Telugu and English media) can be obtained from the principals of the respective colleges on payment of Rs. 25. The last date for receipt of applications is June 15. - Staff Reporter

MP releases poster

CUDDAPAH: The Cuddapah MP, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, released posters which read `Farmers' rule - YSR's goal' here on Monday. The Lakkireddipalle MLA, G. Mohan Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation Chairman, Shaik Hussain, Zilla Parishad Vice-Chairman, P. Ravindranath Reddy, also released the posters, brought out by the DCC publicity cell convenor, Thummalakunta Sivasankar. The Government has accorded priority to the completion of irrigation projects and farmers' welfare, they said on the occasion. - Staff Reporter

Driver posts

CUDDAPAH: The Cuddapah SP, V.C. Sajjanar, has invited applications for 50 heavy vehicle driver posts from eligible SC/ST candidates in the nine mandals affected by woman trafficking, under the aegis of the Regional Network Against Trafficking in Women. SC/ST candidates who passed Class VII and below 35 years of age, belonging to Rayachoti, Chinnamandem, Sambepalle, Tsundupalle, Veeraballe, Lakkireddipalle, Chakrayapet, Galiveedu and Ramapuram mandals could apply for the post by June 10, he said in a statement. - Staff Reporter

Cattle camps

CHITTOOR: As many as 16 cattle camps are being run in the district following shortage of fodder with the farmers due to adverse seasonal conditions, the district Collector, S.S. Rawath, said on Monday. In all 61,861 cattle of 18,592 farmers from 1,100 villagers were being fed in these camps. The camps are functioning at Thamaballapalli, Mandalavaripalli of P.T.M. mandal, Mallelagadda of Kurabalakota Garnamitta of Kambamvaripalli mandal, Laddigam of Chowdepalli Mukundarayanipeta of G.D. Nellore, C.T.M. of Madanapalli Palyam of Pulicherla Yadamari, L.B. Puram , Bodinayanipalli, Chinnavenkatapuram of Irala Kalavagunta of Penumur Bodevandlapalli, Nerabailu of Yerravaripalem and Bommaipalli of Vedurukuppam. - Correspondent

Plea for land

Kurnool: The district secretary of the CPI-ML (New Democracy), P. Gokari, has the Government to distribute 500 acres of seed farm land at Tangedancha near Jupadu Bungalow as promised earlier. Mr. Gokari had made a representation to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during the latter's visit to Nandyal.

Awarded Ph.D in Geology

TIRUPATI: SV University announced that it has awarded a Ph.D in Geology to H. Devi Singh for his research work on `Hydro geomorphology and watershed management studies of upper Swarnamukhi river basin, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.' The research was conducted under the guidance of Prof. T.V. Krishna Reddy. - Staff Reporter

12 Maoists surrender

CUDDAPAH: Twelve members of Papagni and Bahuda dalams of the CPI(Maoist), including two women, surrendered before the V.C. Sajjanar, SP, in Rayachoti urban police station on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the SP asserted that naxalites would fail to achieve any goal by use of arms and urged them to surrender and join the mainstream. - Staff Reporter

Police scuttle dharna plan; take 47 into custody

VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI(M) MLA, K. Lakshmana Murty, the party district secretary, M. Krishna Murty, the State AIDWA president, S. Punyavati, the Jana Natya Mandali president, Vangapandu Prasad, and the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Coolie Sangam secretary, D. Verma, were among 47 leaders taken into preventive custody at various places in Parvathipuram revenue division on Monday. The leaders were planning to stage a dharna at the RDO office for demanding compensation to Thotapalli project victims. - Correspondent

Congress ZPTC, MPP members resign

ANANTAPUR: Thirteen elected representatives of the Congress, including an ZPTC member and an MPP of Kalyanadurg mandal, on Monday quit their posts in response to an ultimatum issued by Maoists earlier this month. Among those who resigned were the ZPTC member, Mahadevi, the MPP, Vannuruswamy. - Staff Reporter

YSR invites Manmohan for land distribution

HYDERABAD: The Government has invited the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to the State for inauguration of the second phase of the land distribution programme.

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, told reporters here on Monday that he was contemplating inviting the Prime Minister for the launch of work on the outer ring road project in Hyderabad and unveiling of statue of Neelam Sanjiva Reddy. - Special Correspondent

House sites promised for journalists

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has assured the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) to extend house site facility to journalists covered by the Working Journalists Act.

The delegation, headed by G. Anjaneyulu, general secretary, APUWJ, submitted a memorandum to Dr. Reddy listing the pending demands as promised by him at the APUWJ's 31st State conference at Eluru on April 23. - Staff Reporter
