NDDB to revive sick dairy units in State in a big way
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The National Dairy Development Board is entering the State in a big way to revive and foster individual district dairy units in the State which are sick.
The board will take over and revive the dairy unit covering East and West Godavari districts with an investment of Rs 15 crores and that of the Cuddapah and Chittoor with another Rs 15 crores. To ensure their survival, the board will increase the capacities of these units and provide them with marketing facilities, using its network etc.
The decisions to this effect were taken at a meeting between the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the NDDB chairperson, Amritha Patel, at the Secretariat on Monday.
Ms Patel told reporters later that the NDDB was also planning to organise dairy units with procurement and marketing coverage in all the "uncovered" districts such as Medak, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar. The investment by NDDB would be Rs 150-200 crores in the State. Dr. Reddy was stated to have asked the NDDB chief to come to the rescue of all sick and weak dairies in the State.
