Varsity gets go ahead for PG medical admission process Varsity gets go-ahead for PG medical admission

R. Sambasiva Rao

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Monday permitted NTR University of Health Sciences to go ahead with third round counselling and admission process to PG medical courses.

The Bench, comprising Justice Eswaraiah and Justice K.C. Bhanu, said students who get admission as per G.O. No. 167 would be permitted to prosecute the course, and validity of admissions made subsequent to G.O. No. 123 (consequent to the full Bench judgment) would be decided by the High Court after summer vacation.

The Bench heard arguments in a special sitting as it was vacation for courts. Students who were successful in earlier round of counselling and beneficiaries of G.O. No. 123 were aggrieved by the recent decision of the Government to issue G.O. 167 cancelling the earlier admissions. The writ petitions were filed by eight students and the cases would be heard on Tuesday.

Vijayawada Staff Reporter writes: Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences, R. Sambasiva Rao, has said that the ongoing counselling for admissions will be completed by Tuesday afternoon.

Counselling ends today

Prof. Rao told The Hindu on Monday that counselling would be carried in accordance with G.O. No. 167. "We will go ahead with the admission process. We are doing it for BC categories and making provisional admissions," he said.

Filling of open category seats, which were to get over by Sunday, was completed on Monday afternoon. Women candidates suffered the most as they had to wait till late into night on Sunday when counselling was carried out till 3 a.m. Students, however, kept complaining about denial of good seats and colleges matching with their ranks.
