ADILABAD: The Adilabad Member of Parliament and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Whip in the Lok Sabha, T. Madhusudan Reddy, on Monday asked the State Government to get the construction work stopped on the controversial Babli project on the Godavari in Maharashtra. He said the Government should file writ petitions either in the Andhra Pradesh High Court or Supreme Court seeking a stay on the work on Babli and other projects on the upper Godavari. At a press conference here, the MP wondered why the Government had failed to lodge a protest with the Central Water Commission (CWC) even on coming to know of the projects being constructed by the Maharashtra Government. Mr. Madhusudan Reddy pointed out that it was the Telangana districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar and Khammam that would suffer because of the projects. "This shows the Government's love for Telangana," he observed sarcastically.
Telangana issue
On the issue of separate Telangana, Mr. Madhusudan Reddy said the sub-committee set up for the purpose under the leadership of Pranab Mukherji would submit its report to the UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, by June 15. This report would in turn be referred to the Cabinet for its consideration by June 20.
The MP said the Union Government would introduce the Tribal Area Reserve Forest Land Regularisation Act, 2005 in the next session of Parliament.
