CHENNAI: A Fast Track Court has completed a murder trial in 17 days. It convicted a man of murdering his wife and sentenced him to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on him. Anbarasu married Amudha, who was working as an attender in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar. Anbarasu had an illicit intimacy with another woman, which led to a quarrel between the husband and the wife. The woman filed a complaint with all-women police station in July last. On May 7, both decided to part ways, which was agreed upon in the all-women police station at Ashok Nagar. On May 13, when Amudha went to a temple in Ashok Nagar, Anbarasu followed her and picked up a quarrel. She was attacked and later she died. The same night Anbarasu was arrested and remanded. The charge sheet was prepared in four days and submitted before XVII Metropolitan Magistrate at Saidapet. The trial was conducted by the Fast Track Court - I judge, C. Pankajam, who slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on the accused and ordered him to pay Rs. 50,000 each to two of his sons as compensation. The case was completed in 17 days, breaking the earlier record of 19 days, in which a disabled person was convicted for murdering his wife.
