Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Muthialpet, Pudupet, Esplanade, Tondiarpet, Park Town and Velachery between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday for maintenance work.

Scholarships awarded

Aswin Sai Narain, a Chennai student, is among the 10 students awarded the prestigious Inlaks scholarship by the Inlaks Foundation for 2005. Inlaks Foundation is dedicated to helping young people pursue higher studies in a range of subjects including theatre, fine arts, media.

The finalists were selected after extensive screening of the initial 8,000 applicants. Scholars elect will pursue studies in music, fine arts, law and life sciences. Aswin Sai Narain will be going to the European Bioinformatics Institute at Hinxton, U.K., to study Genomics and Informatics.

MTC ticket counter

For the convenience of commuters and students, the MTC has set up a new sales counter at Guindy Thiru. Vi. Ka. Estate Terminus, to function from June 1. Monthly season tickets and special concession tickets and `Travel As You Please' tickets will be available here.

Academy reopens

SHI-BA academy for arts re-opens after summer vacation from June 6. Students can learn music, dance, yoga, Abacus, craft and drawing. It also has a play school attached. For details contact phone number 26180611 or 9444010215.

Drawing classes

The Children's Club, Mylapore, conducts drawing and painting classes every weekend throughout the year for children between the ages five and 15. For details contact 28474140 before 4 p.m.

Medical programme

Thirupani Trust Association and Ashian Health Institute, Tiruvallur organised free medical camps and distributed relief material to tsunami-affected fishing communities in Tiruvallur suburbs - Meyyur, Satraz, Oyyalikuppam, Pudupattinam, Panaiyur and Alikuppam. The function was organised by M. Kalirathnam, S. Chandrasekar, A. Anandan and members of the Dalit Agricultural Labout Association, Tiruvallur.

Summer camp

Nesam, a charitable trust, held a summer camp at Santhosapuram from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 29 in association with Akshaya Foundation and Pasumai Ullangal (NGOs). About 100 children learnt toy making and painting at the workshop.
