Official held guilty of misconduct

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Lokayukta, N. Venkatachala, has held the Commissioner of Social Welfare, K. Shivaramu, prima facie guilty of gross official misconduct and causing a loss of Rs. 983.49 lakhs of government funds meant for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Mr. Shivaramu, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste, joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1986.

He has also acted in a few Kannada films.

Besides recommending a regular disciplinary inquiry against the official, the Lokayukta has also told the State Government that Mr. Shivaramu be prevented from holding any public office/post of trust pending inquiry.

The Lokayukta has, while holding Mr. Shivaramu guilty, noted that the funds were meant for improvement of the living conditions of the educated unemployed among Scheduled Castes and for facilitating students of the two communities to get good education by staying in government hostels.

The Lokayukta in recent months raided the offices of Mr. Shivaramu.
