HYDERABAD: With the new Municipal Commissioning of Hyderabad Commissioner, Sanjay Jaju, making his intentions clear in giving impetus to road widening, the corporation is all set to widen the extremely busy road stretch from Rajiv Gandhi statue in Somajiguda to Raj Bhavan by 20 ft. soon.
Jaju's visit
Mr. Jaju visited the spot last week with senior officials and gave the nod for calling tenders for the long pending road development of 1.25 km and by 10 ft on either side of the road. Currently, the road is of 60 ft width and after the work is completed it will be 80 ft.
Redraw of boundaries
If the work proceeds as per the development plan cleared by authorities landmarks such as Amrutha Mall, swank showrooms, Shanti Sagar restaurant, ADP building, petrol station, Jaya Gardens road, Water Board sump house, new public toilet building and a few other commercial complexes will be forced to re-draw their boundaries.
Misuse of space
Corporation officials, who have inspected the site and studied the existing building development plans, are of the opinion that some of the complexes have been misusing their cellar space for years or even using the public road for private parking of vehicles, besides charging a fee.
Smooth traffic
The proposed widening exercise is expected to arrest misuse of such cellar space and also provide the necessary leeway for smoother vehicular movement in the busy corridor.
