KOCHI: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the State Government and the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) to file a statement in two weeks responding to a writ petition against the Government's move to transfer the KTDC's land in Chennai to private parties. The Bench comprising Chief Justice Rajiv Gupta and Justice K.S. Radhakrishan, issued the directive while admitting the petition filed by C. Velayudhan, Secretary, Federation of All-India Marunadan Malayalai Association, Chennai. According to him, about eight acres of land belonging to the Maharajah of erstwhile Cochin had been vested with the State. The State Government had transferred three acres of this property in favour of the Asan Memorial Association and Tamil Nadu police. The remaining 55 per cent of the land had been leased out for 99 years to the KTDC. The petitioner alleged that the KTDC was trying to transfer this property to private parties. When an earlier petition came up, the Government had assured the court that it was planning to construct a hotel-cum-guest house on the land.
