KOCHI: A meeting convened by the City Police Commissioner here on Monday decided to streamline the overseas recruitment process. It was decided at the meeting that the demand letter for recruitment should be properly displayed on the notice boards of all agencies. While advertising for the recruitment, licence numbers should also be mentioned. The agency should have in its possession the demand letter and power of attorney at the time of advertising.
Agreement
The agency should enter into an agreement, valid for at least six months, if passports and other related documents are accepted from the candidate. It was also decided at the meeting that no advance payment should be collected from the candidate. The licence of the recruiting agencies should be renewed every five years. The meeting was convened in the light of increasing instance of candidates being duped by overseas recruiting agencies in the city.
Licence copies
Assistant Commissioners have been asked to investigate recruiting agencies in their respective sub-divisions and take strict action against agencies without proper licences. Copies of the licences should be filed with the Special Branch, said Dinendra Kashyap, City Police Commissioner, after the meeting. Those coming from other countries for recruiting personnel should be on recruiting visas or at least on business visas. Those on tourist visas will not be allowed to make recruitment.
Contact numbers
Any complaints regarding recruitment should be filed to the Protector of Emigrants (phone: 2361087) or the City Special Branch (phone: 2394650). The meeting was attended by S.K. Jeeva, officer, Protector of Emigrants; A.V. George, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Branch); A.R. Santhosh Varma, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thrikakkara); P.H. Ashraf, Assistant Commissioner of Police (City) and representatives of the Manpower Exporters' Association.
