Curbs on vehicles of educational institutions

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City Police have announced restrictions on the vehicles of educational institutions transporting school children as part of the efforts to reduce traffic congestion that is likely to worsen in the capital with the reopening of schools on June 1.

The curbs have been introduced in the wake of the ongoing road-widening projects and as part of the steps to reduce road accidents in the city. The school authorities have to ensure that the vehicles transporting the children are fit for travel, carry only the sanctioned passengers and adhere to the speed limits.

The students should be allowed to board and alight from the school buses and vans only on the premises of educational institutions. The vehicles after alighting the students should be parked without causing traffic snarls, the Assistant Commissioner of Traffic, said in a press release.

The KSRTC and private buses have been asked to carry school and college students as per the norms. The buses have been asked to halt at the stops and to avoid over-speeding.

The traffic police have warned stern action against those buses, autorickshaws, cars, school vans and other vehicles found violating the permit norms and transporting excess school children and indulging in over-speeding.
