Shocking revelation

The reported revelation by Gohar Ayub Khan that his father and former Pakistan President Ayub Khan bought an Indian secret plan to attack Pakistan in 1965 from a Brigadier in the Indian Army (May 31) is shocking. The Ministry of Defence should take serious note of the matter and investigate it to clear the air.

Gohar Ayub Khan's allegation in his to-be-published memoirs is serious. It should be probed for, the plan details were supposed to be comprehensive. Was the Brigadier's action an isolated act or the tip of the iceberg? At the same time, one also wonders, given the timing, whether forces inimical to the India-Pakistan peace process are at work.

Tiruchi, T.N.
