An illustrious son

This refers to the editorial "A salute to India's greatest film-maker" (May 31). Undoubtedly, Satyajit Ray can be regarded as the doyen of Indian film industry. Every film he made had something new to offer.

His masterpiece Pather Panchali is still regarded as one of the best films ever made. India can be legitimately proud of having had an illustrious son in Ray.

Kavin Jain,

Erode, T.N.
