"Congress Chief Ministers must work in tandem"

Staff Reporter

Manmohan, Sonia are our role models: Patil

PONDICHERRY: The Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, has called upon the Chief Ministers in Congress-ruled States and the party chiefs to function in tandem so that there would be better implementation of the schemes.

Addressing workers of the Pondicherry Congress and office-bearers of the Pradesh Congress Committee before wrapping up his one-day visit here on Tuesday, Mr Patil said the State-level functionaries and the Chief Ministers should take the coordinated working of the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, as an example.

"They are our role models and we should emulate their example for better functioning and unity so that the future challenges could be faced confidently."

He also complimented the Pondicherry PCC leader, V. Narayanasamy, MP, for inviting him to visit the party office to address the workers. He said the Congress was better organised in Pondicherry than in most of the States he had visited before.

Full assistance to relief works

He assured the Pondicherry Government that the Centre would provide full assistance to it to carry out relief and rehabilitation works in the tsunami-hit areas.

Earlier, welcoming the Central Minister, the PCC leader requested him to concede the demand of Pondicherry Administration for Statehood with special category status and also B Two status for Pondicherry region to benefit the Government staff. The Chief Minister, Rangasamy, said his Government always utilised the Central funds fully.

Freedom fighter and the chairman of Pondicherry BC and Minorities Development Corporation, N. Tamodarane wanted jobs for the wards of freedom fighters in Central and State Government services.
