CHENNAI: The secretary of the State unit of the Communist Party of India, D. Pandian, has urged the Government to scrap the entrance test for admission to professional courses in Tamil Nadu. Testing candidates' knowledge again within one or two months after their examinations was totally unnecessary. Such an exercise was only a waste of money, causing mental agony, Mr. Pandian said in a release on Tuesday. The State Government should abolish entrance examinations. Besides making admissions on the basis of the marks obtained by candidates in the Plus-Two examination, the Government should take steps to streamline the fees and donations. In the interest of future generation, the Chief Minister should convene a meeting of vice-chancellors, retired vice-chancellors and educationists immediately and evolve an alternative scheme for admissions. This would put an end to the hardship faced by candidates and their parents, he said.
