1,370 polling booths in Shimoga constituency

SHIMOGA: Preparations have been made to ensure free and fair voting in the Lok Sabha byelection scheduled to be held on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer, T.K. Anil Kumar, has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that there are 12,86,181 voters in the constituency of whom 6,35,032 are women. With the addition of the three auxiliary booths in Sagar, the total number of polling booths has risen to 1,370.

A control room has been opened in his office to elicit and convey election-related information round the clock. Its telephone numbers are 08182-272282, 08182-226268 and 08182-226912, he said.

The Excise Department has been asked to keep a close watch on the sale of liquor, which has been banned till the midnight of June 5 in the entire constituency, the Deputy Commissioner said.

He said that 395 booths have been identified as hypersensitive and 488 as sensitive.
