BANGALORE: It is said to be the first of its kind in this part of the sub-continent. An aviation complex in Bangalore to facilitate purchase of personal and business aircraft, aero engines, avionics and other aviation parts and materials. IndUS Aviation is launching on June 10 an aircraft showroom in Koramangala here to provide maintenance and support of small aircraft operations, besides setting up a flight-training academy. There are plans to manufacture light aircraft here at `highly competitive costs' for export to the U.S. and other countries. The President of IndUs Aviation, Ram Pattisapu, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the company planned to manufacture a four-seater aircraft costing between Rs. 60 lakh and Rs. 65 lakh, later this year. The showroom will have a two-seater aircraft on display and sell aviation-related merchandise and pilot supplies and books and magazines on aviation. The company also sponsors the build-a-plane programme for youngsters. IndUs manufactures two types of two-seater aircraft: the VFR (visual flight rules) equipped aircraft which costs about Rs. 35 lakh and IFR (instrument flight rules) equipped aircraft which costs about Rs. 40 lakh. The assembly of IndUS aircraft has been outsourced to Taneja Aerospace. The proposed flight training academy will train pilots for PPL (private pilot licence) and CPL (commercial pilot licence). Mr. Pattisapu said general aviation which involved recreational and business aviation was not popular in the country. Hence it was necessary to ease regulations for the sector to grow. "India can do for aviation what it has done for IT."
