BHOPAL: The much-awaited Madhya Pradesh Cabinet expansion will take place this Wednesday. There are indications that half a dozen new faces will be inducted and at least four ministers may be dropped from the Council of Ministers on the basis of their performance. The Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur, on Tuesday left for Delhi to meet the BJP national general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh, Arun Jaitley, to finalise the list of those being inducted as Ministers. Mr. Gaur had earlier indicated that he had already received the green signal from the party president, L.K. Advani, and the Cabinet expansion would be carried out before his departure for Singapore and Malaysia on May 25. Addressing a press conference upon his return from his short foreign tour, Mr. Gaur had reiterated on Sunday that the Cabinet expansion exercise would be completed in a day or two. The expansion would be done after the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, concludes his two-day Bhopal visit on May 30, the Chief Minister had told journalists. There was hectic activity in ruling party circles here on Tuesday after word spread about the Cabinet expansion. According to speculation doing the rounds, some of the probable contenders for a ministerial berth are Himmat Kothari, Kamal Patel, Ajay Bishnoi, Laxman Gaur and Kusum Mehdle.
