MYSORE: Having topped in the Common Entrance Test (CET), these students are keeping their fingers crossed about admissions to professional colleges. Some of them are awaiting results of the Joint Entrance Examination of the Indian Institute of Technology and the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) entrance examination. K. Chetana, a student of Mahajan's Pre-University College, who stood fourth in the CET (medical), has left for Bangalore to write the AIIMS entrance examination on Wednesday. Her mother, K. Theja, told The Hindu that Chetana was a brilliant and precocious girl since first standard. "She was a topper from first standard to 10th standard as a student of Manasarovar Pushkarni School and won a merit certificate for her outstanding performance in science examination by the NCERT," she said. Apart from AIIMS, Chetana awaits the results of JIPMER, before deciding on the institution. She was inspired by her doctor parents. Her mother has a Ph. D. degree while her father, K.T. Krishnegowda, is a doctor.
Diligent studies
Nikhil, who stood fourth in the CET (architecture), is writing the AIIMS entrance examination. He told The Hindu that 4 to 5 hours of diligent studies was a contributory factor to his success. This is apart from college hours and private tuitions. "I am yet to decide on which course to pursue. I am appearing for the AIIMS and I took the Armed Force Medical College (AFMC) entrance examination for admission to those prestigious medical colleges," he said. He does not rule out the possibility of pursuing an engineering course. A student of Sadvidya PU College here, Nikhil is the son of Manmatha Gowda, an official in the Syndicate Bank in Bangalore. "I have applied for the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, and will opt for it given its reputation," he added. Nikhil did his schooling in Bellary before coming to Mysore for his pre-university education. T.M. Nagamayur, who stood eight in the CET (engineering) ranking, has decided that his future is in engineering. He is a student of Sadividya PU College and is awaiting IIT-JEE results apart from the All India Engineering Entrance Examination results. He is the son of T.N. Manjunath, an auditor and his mother, Lakshmi Manjunath, is a housewife. Unlike most others, Nagamayur, has decided the future course of his study. It will be Electronics and Communication at either SJCE or RVCE or BITS, Pilani. There is one thing common to all toppers. Concentrated study and diligent work.
