Service tax

NEW DELHI: To convey the trading community's concerns over imposition of service tax on good transportation, a delegation of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday met senior officials of the Union Finance Ministry.

The CAIT secretary-general, Praveen Khandelwal, who led the delegation, said the issue of service tax on good transportation had cropped up again because the Union Government was not taking any decision on the report of the Joint Committee. He said the traders were holding meetings in different States to decide the future course of action.

Mansarovar Yatra

NEW DELHI: The first batch of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra comprising a liaison officer and 23 pilgrims is schedule to leave Delhi this Wednesday.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has made special arrangements for the yatris. ITBP doctors along with sufficient para-medical staff are already at Gunji in Uttaranchal with medicines and oxygen cylinders. Security personnel would be escorting the yatris from Gunji to Lipulekh Pass and receive them on their return journey.

Homage

NEW DELHI: The 16th Barsi Bhandara of mystic poet Sant Darshan Singhji Maharaj was held at Kirpal Bagh here on Monday. He founded the Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission in 1974.

The head of Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission, Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj, paid rich tributes to the mystic poet. A large number of people from various walks of life paid homage to the poet.

Restoration work

NEW DELHI: Over 3,000 Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) landline connections at Janakpuri in West Delhi have been affected since Monday night after five underground cables were stolen near the telephone exchange.

MTNL claims to have started restoration work and normal functioning is expected to be restored in a couple of days.

Water supply to be affected

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Tuesday said that due to repair work being carried out by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Sikandara Road, water supply would remain affected this Wednesday evening on Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, C-Hexagon, Sikandara Road, Ferozeshah Road, Barakhamba Road, Connaught Place, Tolstoy Marg, Janpath and Bengali Market.

Refund with compensation

NEW DELHI: Taking strong exception to non-delivery of plots by a construction company despite receiving part payments from the purchasers eight years ago, the State Consumer Commission has asked them to refund a total of Rs. 20.07 lakh to them along with compensation.
