HYDERABAD: The joint chief electoral officer, Anil Kumar, rushed to Penukonda on Tuesday on the direction of the Election Commission in view of fresh problems such as alleged distribution of money among voters by Congress leaders. The CEO, M. Narayana Rao, asked the local election authorities to flush out all outsiders, who were allegedly helping in the distribution, from the constituency from 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Narayana Rao told a TDP delegation which met him that the DIG of the region was available at constituency headquarters along with the two Central observers and that specific cases of cash distribution, if any, could be brought to their notice. He asked them to help the police and election authorities in identifying the "outside elements" for being sent out. Speaking to The Hindu later, the CEO said, the Ministers J. C. Diwakar Reddy and N. Raghuveera Reddy had not committed any mistake by staying in the constituency.
Convoy issue
Regarding alleged use of more vehicles than allowed in the convoy by Mr. Diwakar Reddy, he said this was stopped. He said, two cases were booked so far for money distribution and cash to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh was seized. A massive force of 6,000 uniformed men was deployed, he added.
