CHENNAI: The operation and maintenance of pumping station for Alandur underground sewage scheme at Vanuvampet is headed for trouble with the IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects Limited sounding notice of withdrawing from the project from Tuesday. In a letter addressed to the Alandur Municipality and the Commissioner of Municipal Administration with a copy to the Lakshmi Nagar Civic Welfare Association, Nanganallur, the project Director cited high recurring expenditure towards operation and maintenance of manpower as the reasons for withdrawing from the project. The fallout of this action by the agency looms large on the residents of Adambakkam Nilamangai Nagar who have already faced inundation by sewage water during the last month's rains.
Faulty design
The United Forum of Nanganallur Welfare Associations alleges that the IVCRL is responsible for the faulty design of the system at Nilamangai Nagar.
