ISLAMABAD: "All those thinking of a solution to Jammu and Kashmir must naturally think of a solution acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. When I say the people of Jammu and Kashmir we must recognise that there are diverse communities in the State with divergent views and opinions. A solution has to be acceptable to all diverse sections and views," BJP president L.K. Advani told Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf during their meeting on Tuesday. The focus of Pakistan Television's prime bulletin on the meeting was on Gen. Musharraf's assertion that the Kashmir "dispute could be resolved with sincerity, flexibility and courage."
Enabling environment
It quoted the Pakistan President as telling Mr. Advani that parliamentarians of both the countries had played an important role in the creation of an "enabling environment" in the improvement of India-Pakistan ties. In his opening comments at a press conference, Mr. Advani said his scriptwriter who prepared a press note on the meeting has described it as "a new milestone" and maintained that it was "too big a phrase." At a later juncture, in response to another question, Mr. Advani said his meeting with Gen. Musharraf was not as important as the whole visit itself. "Solution nikalega, zaroor nikalega" (the solution will come, it certainly will come), both are said have echoed in unison while discussing the nitty-gritty of the peace process and the progress it has made so far. Mr. Advani told Gen. Musharraf: "We can no longer say, let us give peace an option. The truth is that peace is the only option." He quoted Gen. Musharraf as agreeing with his proposition He told the Pakistan President that, with regard to the peace process, "all the people in India, the ruling as well as the opposition parties, are one."
