CLUES team visits scene of offence

HYDERABAD: The sarpanch, P. Kondal Rao, who was arrested on the charge of raping a 35-year-old woman at New MLA quarters at Saifabad on Monday, was remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.

He allegedly committed the crime in the room allotted to the TDP MLA from Palakonda.

Experts from the CLUES team visited the spot in the morning.

Quoting the victim, police sources said soon after she went inside the room, Kondal Rao spoke to her for 15 minutes.

He then allegedly told her that if she wanted the job here, she would have to "oblige."

Sources said while in custody of the Saifabad police, Kondal Rao alleged that it was the woman who had "provoked him."

Judicial probe sought

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya condemned the incident and sought a judicial probe into it.

The samakhya president, P. Padma, in a release demanded that the sarpanch be prosecuted. The victim should be sanctioned the job which her father had held.
