BSNL comes to the aid of CET candidates; no rush at cyber cafes

Staff Reporter

Many used Internet facility at home to know results

BANGALORE: Unlike last year, there was no rush of CET (Common Entrance Test) candidates at cyber cafes to check their results on websites.

The much-awaited results were available from 2 p.m. on Tuesday on the CET websites http://kar.nic.in/cet and http://cet.kar.nic.in. A few private websites too uploaded the results.

Many cyber cafe owners around Shivajinagar and St. Mark's Road were not aware about the announcement of results. Those who knew that the results were out said there was no rush of candidates to check websites as the BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.) provided a facility to give results on landlines and as many candidates had Internet facility at home.

Namita S. Kumar, who secured the third rank in the medical stream, came to know about the result through a BSNL phone. So did Chinmaya D., who got the fourth rank in the engineering steam. However, Mahesh R., who came sixth in the engineering stream, said he went to a cyber cafe to find out his results. Many candidates came to know their results through media sources. Nandita Varkey, who secured the fifth rank in the aptitude test for admission to the Architecture course, got the information from a newspaper office.

However, Internet parlours in Malleswaram did better than their counterparts in other areas. One of them provided free Net facility to members who came to check results and free coupons worth Rs. 25 to others.

A few candidates had anxious moments. Aravinda Devaraj, who came first in the aptitude test for admission to the Architecture course, had to wait for hours to know how she had fared. Her mother could not access the websites at home and Aravinda could not get through to the BSNL landline facility for some time. When she got connected, she could only get the marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics tests. Later, Aravinda's teacher gave her a phone number of the CET Cell to confirm her results.
