BANGALORE: A parking lot attendant was electrocuted at Cubbon Park during the heavy rain on Tuesday evening. At least five people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the city in the past week. The police said that around 7 p.m., Shafi (45), a resident of Neelasandra, was coming out of Cubbon Park through a gate near the Victoria Statue. As the area was flooded, Shafi put his hands on the metal gate and tried to jump over it. He was electrocuted. In the heavy rain, water had entered the power junction box fitted to a pole supporting the gate, the police said. The Cubbon Park police have registered a case. The Horticulture Department maintains the electrical installations at Cubbon Park. Traffic in many parts of the city was severely affected as roads were flooded. Traffic jams were reported from some busy areas in the central parts of the city such as Richmond Road, Mission Road, Lalbagh Road, Trinity Circle and Siddalingaiah Circle. There were reports of water from overflowing storm-water drains entering houses in some areas. Residents of Shammanna Gowda Layout, off Jogupalya, in Ulsoor said water had entered over a hundred houses in their locality. Residents of 2nd Stage, BTM Layout, complained that water had collected in trenches dug by the civic authorities for laying cables and for taking up other works.
