VISAKHAPATNAM: Doctors gave tips on de-addiction and the ways to prevent withdrawal symptoms to patients at a counselling programme conducted here on Tuesday on the occasion of World No-Tobacco Day. Several addicts to smoking, tobacco chewing and gutka consuming attended the camp conducted jointly by the Government Hospital for Mental Care (GHMC) and the Government Hospital and Chest and Communicable Diseases. Queries like how to overcome withdrawal symptoms were posed to the doctors. The patients were explained about the efficacy of nicotine replacement therapy. G. Bhagya Rao of the GHMC, P. Subba Rao of the GHCCD, and the Resident Medical Officer, M.V.V.S. Murthy, said a special chewing gum with strong nicotine taste was being offered to addicts for chewing to overcome the urge to smoke.
