Sundaresa Iyer released from jail

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The manager of the Kanchi Mutt, N. Sundaresa Iyer, arrested on December 24 in connection with the murder of Sankararaman, was released from the Chennai Central Jail on Wednesday.

The Madras High Court had granted him conditional bail in the case on Tuesday, directing him to stay at Villupuram until further orders.

He is to sign before the town police station twice a day.

Mr. Iyer's release was delayed by over an hour owing to minor discrepancies in his bond, which was furnished to jail authorities at 4.30 p.m.

He stepped out of the jail premises at 6 p.m. to join his advocates and relatives who were waiting anxiously.

Raghu's bail plea

However, the junior Sankaracharya, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi's younger brother, M.K. Raghu, who was arrested in connection with the murder case on December 30, must wait for favourable orders on his bail petition in the Radhakrishnan assault case.

The sessions court here is to pass orders on his bail plea on Thursday.
