NALGONDA: A large number of villagers led by the Alagadapa sarpanch, Venepally Pandu Ranga Rao, on Wednesday took out a rally in Miryalaguda demanding that the Union Government implement the Provision of Urban amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) scheme in the 15 villages surrounding the town. The protesters raised slogans against the local people's representatives for "their indifferent attitude" towards the scheme. They asked the Government to implement the scheme without any delay. Addressing the protesters, Mr. Pandu Ranga Rao, who had hit headlines by calling for a referendum on his performance two years ago, said that the villagers were worried over news reports that suggested that the PURA scheme was diverted to a town in Rayalaseema region. "If they implement the scheme here, about 15 villages will get basic amenities."
