MUMBAI:
Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama today presented an award to film actor and the former Censor Board chairman, Anupam Kher, at Macleodganj in Himachal Pradesh for his significant contribution to society.
The award instituted by newspaper group ``Divya Himachal'' carried a trophy and a citation, sources said.
Mr. Kher told PTI by telephone that he was very happy to receive the award from the Dalai Lama who is a ``peace-loving person.''
Mr. Kher, who is a Kashmiri Pandit, said, in reply to his felicitation, that people belonging to his community did not have a spiritual leader like Dalai Lama to fight for justice and motherland.
Otherwise they would not have been displaced from Kashmir, he said.
Dalai Lama unfolded a poster of Mr. Kher's soon-to-be-released movie ``Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara.''
