KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has expressed concern over the disappearance of London-based senior global delivery manager of IBM from the city. He asked the city Commissioner of Police on Thursday to spare no effort to trace the missing man. Rajib Bhattacharjee, aged about 31, who had arrived here from London on May 29, went missing around noon on Wednesday, two days before his wedding. He left his residence at Salt Lake in the morning and has remained untraced since his visit to a bank in neighbouring Ultadanaga in the northern part of the city.
Driver arrested
A senior police official said Mr. Rajib Bhattacharjee is suspected to have been abducted. His driver has been arrested. His father, Saroj Bhattacharjee, handed over a complaint to the Chief Minister's Secretariat along with an appeal for help to trace him. Mr. Rajib Bhattacharjee had called up his father sometime after leaving home and requested that a blank cheque be handed over to him at the bank he had gone to. The cheque was sent to him through his driver. On reaching the bank the driver could not find him, according to his statement to the police. What has aroused the suspicion of the police is that two hours before the driver reached the bank, Mr. Rajib Bhattacharjee's home was informed of his having gone missing. The police are also looking into reports of an e-mail addressed to Mr. Rajib Bhattacharjee warning him against going ahead with the wedding.
