ALAPPUZHA: The Department of Water Transport will launch its maiden venture in the tourism sector on Friday as part of a comprehensive plan to modernise and diversify its activities in tune with the changing times. Minister for Transport N. Sakthan will launch a tourist boat service and three steel and two fibre boats of the department. Minister for Tourism K.C. Venugopal will preside over the function. K.S. Manoj, MP, will be the chief guest.The boat service offers a two-hour package to sightseers. The service will begin and end at Alappuzha boat jetty and pass through Kuttanad. Two boats, each with a capacity of 50 people, will be used for the ride.
