Plus-Two syllabus: subjects and groups reorganised

Number of groups has been reduced from 165 to 28, as per the government order

VELLORE: Microbiology, biochemistry, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, home science, english for communication, and ethics and Indian culture have been introduced as optional subjects for the Plus Two students in the general education stream with effect from the March 2006 examinations, as per the Government Order No. 46 issued by the School Education Department on May 14, 2004.

The total number of groups (the combination of four elective subjects to be chosen by the Plus Two students when they enter the eleventh standard) has been reduced from 165 to 28, as per the G.O.

In a communication to the heads of higher secondary schools in Tamil Nadu, the Director of Government Examinations (DGE) has stated that examinations would be held only in accordance with the following groups (carrying specific code numbers) with effect from the higher secondary public examinations to be held in March 2006:

Code no. 101 - physics, chemistry, statistics, mathematics; 102 - physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics; 103 - physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics; 104 - physics, chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics; 105 - physics, chemistry, english for communication, mathematics; 106 -physics, chemistry, mathematics, home science; 201 - physics, chemistry, biology, computer science; 202 - physics, chemistry, biology, microbiology; 203 - physics, chemistry, biology, biochemistry; 204 - physics, chemistry, biology, nursing; 205 - physics, chemistry, biology, nutrition and dietetics; 206 - physics, chemistry, biology, english for communication; 207 - physics, chemistry, biology, home science; 208 - physics, chemistry, botany, zoology.

Code no. 301 - statistics, economics, commerce, accountancy; 302 - computer science, economics, commerce, accountancy; 303 - english for communication, economics, commerce, accountancy; 304 - history, economics, commerce, accountancy; 305 - economics, political science, commerce, accountancy; 306 - economics, commerce, accountancy, ethics and Indian culture; 307 - economics, commerce, accountancy, advanced language; 308 - economics, commerce, accountancy, business mathematics; 401 - statistics, geography, history, economics; 402 - computer science, geography, history, economics; 403 - geography, english for communication, history, economics; 404 - geography, history, economics, political science; 405 - geography, history, economics, ethics and Indian culture; 406 - geography, history, economics, advanced language.

Subjects removed

As part of this reshuffle of groups, the department has removed the vocational subjects of banking, electrical domestic appliances repair and maintenance, electrical motor rewinding, electronics, general insurance, general machinist, office management, radio and TV maintenance and repairs and typewriting from the general education stream.

The subjects of foundation science taught under the heads `nursing' and `medical laboratory assistant' and psychology taught under `child care and nutrition' have been removed from the vocational stream.

The DGE has asked the school heads to immediately intimate the Chief Educational Officers concerned about any groups, other than that specified above, which might be taught in their schools.
