Letters to the Editor
BJP leader L.K. Advani's statement that December 6, 1992 (the day the Babri Masjid was demolished) was the saddest day in his life is yet another example of how blatantly politicians lie. Everyone knows he was present at the site during the demolition and did nothing to stop it. Why are he and his party so adamant about building a Ram temple at the disputed site?
Mr. Advani's visit to Pakistan is a good sign for the India-Pakistan peace process. All leaders, cutting across party affiliations, should show similar interest in mending fences with the neighbour. Only then will permanent peace become a possibility.
It is heartening that a flickering light is visible at the end of the tunnel in the dispute over Kashmir. The steadily increasing people-to-people contacts at various levels, softening of the Kashmir border, reduction of the armed forces along the border, and the willingness of political leaders of both the countries, including those of Kashmir, to adopt a fresh approach are moves towards peace and reconciliation.
