MYSORE: The Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, had a providential escape when the official car in which he was travelling crashed into the pilot jeep that was leading the convoy on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, at Mandya on Thursday. The accident occurred when a truck suddenly swerved to the right without any indication, forcing the driver of the pilot vehicle to slam the brakes to avoid a collision. The car carrying Mr. Siddaramaiah was close behind the pilot vehicle and crashed into it and brushed against the truck. The bonnet of the official car was damaged in the collision. The Mandya police seized the truck and arrested its driver. Mr. Siddaramaiah, accompanied by the Hunsur MLA, G.T. Deve Gowda, and Ramaiah, personal assistant to the Deputy Chief Minister, was on his way to Mysore. Mr. Siddaramaiah and the others escaped with minor bruises. The Mandya Superintendent of Police, Hitendra, and senior officials took Mr. Siddaramaiah and the others to the Inspection Bungalow where they were administered first aid. At Mysore the entire district administration was present at the Jaladarshini Guest-house to receive Mr. Siddaramaiah. The Superintendent of K.R. Hospital, Mahimanjan Singh, and his staff examined the Deputy Chief Minister. Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Siddaramaiah described the sequence of events leading to the accident and said, "I am OK. It was a minor accident."
