Haryana reserves posts of teachers for women

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Wednesday announced reservation of 33 per cent posts of teachers for women and enhancement of the qualifications of teachers in a phased manner to ensure the empowerment of women and improve the quality of education.

He said the decision to reserve posts of teachers for women was taken because it was felt that the women being affectionate and caring handled the children in such a manner that they did not fear coming to the school thus reducing the drop-out rate.

This, he said, was an unprecedented decision which would make its impact felt in the days to come.

He added that the qualifications of JBT teachers had been enhanced.

Now the essential academic qualifications for JBT teachers would include B.A. or B.Sc. Pass with English as one of the elective or optional subjects and having done JBT course.

The Government was considering reducing the duration of the two-year-long JBT course.

Mr. Hooda said that since his Government was keen to teach English language to the students right from the beginning, it had been made mandatory for such teachers to pass English as one of the subjects at the level of graduation.

He said the qualifications for other school teachers would also be enhanced in a phased manner.
