Call for software in Hindi

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: "In this era of globalisation, corporate houses have an important role to play in conserving our culture and value system. They should bring out software in Hindi and other regional languages to promote nationalism," said Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on Thursday after unveiling an anthology, "Katha Chayan", at Vigyan Bhavan here.

Appreciating the endeavour to promote writing, Mr. Shekhawat said literature identifies the evils and problems of society and thus helps in resolving them.

The function was organised by the Hindi weekly "Sahara Samay" to felicitate the winners of a nationwide story-writing competition held in 2003. The first three winners were given cash prizes of Rs. 51,000, Rs. 31,000 and Rs. 21,000 each.

A story by Prabhat Ranjan, "Janaki Pull" won the first prize. Drawing parallels between literature and journalism, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said the two forms of writing might have different styles but both contribute towards betterment of society. Noted Hindi writer Namvar Singh was among those present on the occasion.
