NEW DELHI: Wheat production in 2004-05 is estimated to be 73.5 million tonnes. This is 1.4 million tonnes more than last year's production. However, it is marginally short of the earlier estimate of 74.05 million tonnes. Wheat output is likely to be lower than earlier estimates in Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh by about two million tonnes, whereas in Madhya Pradesh there are indications of a record production of 8.6 million tonnes, about 1.4 million tonnes higher than last year. The output in Punjab is 14.7 million tonnes as against 14.5 million tonnes last year. In Haryana the production at 9 million tonnes is about the same as last year's level of 9.1 million tonnes. Uttar Pradesh has yielded 24.7 million tonnes as against 25.6 million tonnes last year. Rajasthan has produced 5.5 million tonnes compared to 5.9 million tonnes last year.
