Girls grab first three ranks in SSLC exam in Nellai dt.

TIRUNELVELI: Girl students of Tirunelveli district have outshined boys in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination 2005 as all first three ranks in the district have gone in favour of girls who have got the better of the boys in the pass percentage too.

While the girls have won the top three ranks each in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi educational districts, a boy from Thisayanvilai under the Cheranmahadevi educational district has bagged the third rank as the first two ranks of this educational district have gone in favour of the girls.

The Sarah Tucker Girls Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, which won the State first and third ranks in the SSLC 2003 examination, got the first rank in the district as its student, D. Shenbagaveni alias Gomathi, stood first with her total marks of 487.

S. Parvathi Ambika, also from the same school and I. Suganya of St. John's Higher Secondary School, Veeravanallur, shared the second place with the score of 485.

The third place has gone in favour of S. Sumaiah of Sarah Tucker Girls Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai, K. Hema, Bharathiyar Government Higher Secondary School, Veeravanallur, and M. Bindhu, Balaiah Marthandam Higher Secondary School, Aavaraikulam, as all of them scored 484.

The total number of students appeared for the examination - 31,570 (boys - 15,960; girls - 15,610). Passed - 27,865 (boys - 13,558; girls - 14,307).

Boys' pass percentage 84.94; Girls' pass percentage 91.65. Pass percentage of Tirunelveli district 88.26.

Tirunelveli educational district

The total number of students appeared for examination - 11,435 (boys - 5,835; girls - 5,600). Passed - 9,832 (boys - 4,734; girls - 5,098). Boys' pass percentage 81.13; Girls' pass percentage 91.03. Pass percentage of educational district 86.

Tenkasi educational district

The total number of students appeared for examination - 9,768 (boys - 4,965; girls - 4,803). Passed - 8,642 (boys - 4,288; girls - 4,354). Boys' pass percentage 86.36; Girls' pass percentage 90.65. Pass percentage of educational district 88.47.

Cheranmahadevi educational district

The total number of students appeared for examination - 10,367 (boys - 5,160; girls - 5,207). Passed - 9,391 (boys - 4,536; girls - 4,855). Boys' pass percentage 88; Girls' pass percentage 93.23. Pass percentage of educational district 90.58.

I - N. Poomari (481) of R.C. High School, Puliyangudi, II - A. Augusta (480) of Barron Brook Higher Secondary School, Bungalow Surandai, III - O.S. Shamima (479) of Hidayathul Islam Higher Secondary School, Kadayanallur.

Toppers of Cheranmahadevi educational district

I - I. Suganya (485) of St. John's Higher Secondary School, Veeravanallur, II - K. Hema (484) of Bharathiyar Government Higher Secondary School, Veeravanallur and N. Bindhu (484) of Balaiah Marthandam Higher Secondary School, Aavarikulam, III - Joshua Asirvatham (483) of Holy Redeemer Higher Secondary School, Thisayanvilai.

Of the 278 schools in the district, including 114 government schools and 164 government aided institutions, 58 schools, including 14 government schools, 43 government aided schools and the lone Adi Dravida Welfare Higher Secondary School, Nallammalpuram, near here, have registered a cent per cent result.
