Cotton mill workers to resume stir

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: The Public Sector Industries Protection Committee for Kozhikode has accused the Government of backtracking on its assurances regarding the welfare of employees affected by the closure of companies in the district.

The employees of the Malabar Spinning and Weaving Mill at Tiruvannur have said that they will stage a sathyagraha in front of the Collectorate on June 8 in protest against the failure of the Government to "honour its promises."

The Government is reported to have said that it would tackle the problems at discussions held to settle an indefinite stir held in front of the Collectorate in March.

The decision of the cotton mill workers to resume their stir was taken at a meeting presided over by the AITUC leader K.K. Kuttikrishnan.
