PALAKKAD: A workshop on Ilizarov method (for treating fractures, deformities and other bone defects), organised by Palakkad Orthopaedic Club and the Forum for Advancement and Research in Ilizarov technology, will be inaugurated at Hotel Soorya City on Sunday. P.N. Vasudevan, organising convenor of the programme, said unprincipled application of the Ilizarov method resulted in a large number of complications and a bad name for the `Ilizarov school.' But there was no doubt that the method was a wonderful tool and had proved to be extremely useful. Success of this method lay in strict adherence to basic principles of biomechanics and biology, which were important for all orthopaedic surgeons to follow, he said.
