Indian Law Institute gets deemed university status

The Institute also has plans to start training programmes for law teachers

NEW DELHI: The Indian Law Institute, founded here in 1956 with the objective of promoting and conducting legal research, has been conferred "Deemed University" status by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

According to the Institute, in pursuance of its objective it has been conducting postgraduate diploma courses in Administrative Law, Corporate Law and Management, Cyber Laws, Intellectual Property Rights, International Trade Law, Labour Law, Taxation Law, Private International Law, Securities Law and Alternate Dispute Resolution system.

With the conferment of Deemed University status now the Institute has announced the launch of its first batch of LL.M. programme in International Trade Law, IPRs, Shipping and Maritime law, Environmental Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights and Judicial Administration. It has also decided to admit students for the Ph.D. programme.

Admissions for postgraduate diplomas, LL.M. and Ph.D. for the 2005-06 session begin from the first week of June. Details are available on the website www.ilidelhi.org.

The Institute also has plans to start training programmes for law teachers working in different universities.

This UGC-sponsored refresher course will begin on July 4.
