HUBLI: Vidya Poshak, Dharwad, and Prerana, Raichur, will be giving financial assistance to 150 meritorious students who wish to pursue professional courses but are unable to do so because of financial constraints. Speaking to presspersons here, the honorary secretary of Vidya Poshak, R.N. Tikot, said that the organisation had brought the professional courses into the ambit of scholarships from the current academic year. He said that the organisation established to help poor students has funds to the tune of Rs. 1.25 crores for the 2005-06 academic year. It will spend Rs. 25 lakhs for providing books and strengthening the library, Rs. 60 lakhs will be disbursed to the students directly, and Rs. 40 lakhs is meant for promotion of education through various guidance programmes and training classes. The organisation will be awarding scholarships to 800 poor students who have secured good marks in SSLC and want to pursue higher education, he added Students from Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttar Kannada, Bagalkot, Bijapur, and Belgaum districts can send their applications to Vidya Poshak, 17/1, Vastrad Compound, Opposite Bala Balaga, Mahishi Road, Malamaddi, Dharwad- 580007, or email it to vidyaposhak@sify.com.
