This Day That Age
The Government of India on June 7 announced the appointment of Dr. John Matthai, former Union Finance Minister, as Chairman of the central board of the State Bank of India, which will come into existence on July 1. The Vice-Chairman is Mr. Vaikunthlal Mehta, former Minister of Finance, Bombay. The central board consists of 20 directors. Besides the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, there will be two managing directors, one director representing the Government of India and one representing the Reserve Bank of India.
