Varsity teachers urged to return for tabulation

Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE: Mangalore University has appealed to college teachers who are boycotting tabulation work since June 1 to return to work in the interest of students.

K. Sooryanarayana Rao, Registrar (Evaluation), in a press release said that the demands of teachers would be placed before appropriate bodies of the university. A decision on increasing the remuneration of tabulators and reducing the number of marks card to be written from 50 to 30 marks cards a day will be taken in the next meeting of the appropriate body, he said.

He said that of the seven demands placed by the teachers on May 24, 2005, the authorities have decided to fulfill four demands fully, two demands partially and one demand has to be taken up with the government. The discussion was held in the presence of representatives of teachers.

The university has told the tabulators that the number of marks cards to be written has been reduced to 50 a day. The revised remuneration would be paid in the tabulation bill.

The teachers are demanding that the number of marks cards be reduced from 50 a day to 30. Besides, the remuneration should be increased from Rs. 6 a marks card to Rs. 15.

Mr. Rao said that the university has to bear the expenses of all examination-related work from the fee collected from students.

Hence it cannot increase the remuneration only for tabulation work. If it has to do so, it will add extra burden on students.
