NEW DELHI: A delegation of AIADMK Rajya Sabha members, led by P.G. Narayanan, on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh alleging that the Sun Television group was trying to monopolise the electronic media in the south by "preventing the growth of other television channels." The MPs alleged that ever since Dayanidhi Maran became Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, the growth of his family business in the electronic media had been increasing by "leaps and bounds."
"Conflict of interest"
Referring to the application submitted by Sun TV for obtaining the DTH licence, the memorandum said that since Mr. Maran had to deal with the application for the grant of the operational licence, there would be a conflict of interest and ``there would not be a proper evaluation of the application.'' The MPs sought the Prime Minister's intervention to render justice. Mr. Narayanan told reporters after the meeting that the Prime Minister had promised to look into the matter.
