Volvo sets up engineering services division

Special Correspondent

Effects changes at the top level

CHENNAI: Volvo India has set up an engineering services division in Bangalore to support its parent in global truck product development.

According to a spokesperson of the company, Volvo India had started carrying out the already existing activities of Volvo 3P, a business unit within the Volvo Group, which provides global solutions in the areas of product development management for the various truck brands within the group. In India, Volvo does engineering services for its global product platforms. These services include activities such as cab engineering, chassis and vehicle dynamics, electrical and electronics lab and complete vehicle, among other areas.

The establishment of a new division coincides with a shuffle at the top at Volvo India. Eric Leblanc has taken over as the Managing Director of Volvo in India in place of Ulf Nordqvist, who had returned to Sweden to take up a position at Volvo Truck Corporation.

Volvo is using India as a sourcing base. Until the establishment of engineering services' division, India had been used as an outsourcing hub for IT (information technology) and components. The new division has only expanded outsourcing options from Volvo India.
