CHENNAI: The Food Corporation of India employees staged a dharna in front of their zonal office here on Tuesday, protesting against the management's proposed decision to privatise procurement, storage and distribution of foodgrains. According to the employees unions, the Central Government had appointed a multi-national company to suggest ways and means to reduce the food subsidy. The MNC in its interim report had suggested outsourcing of procurement, storage and distribution by FCI to private traders. The recommendation, according to unions, would lead to reduction of staff, which would affect the career prospects of lower grade employees. The management, the unions said, had decided to implement the recommendation without consulting the unions. They warned that they would intensify their agitation if the management went ahead with the implementation of the recommendation.
